Canelo targeted by former world champion with a score to settle: “Before it’s all said and done”

Canelo Alvarez has been called out by an unbeaten former world champion, who would look to avenge his brother’s defeat to the Mexican star.

At this stage, the 36-year-old believes he could enter another four or five fights, including his next outing against WBC world champion Christian Mbilli.

The pair will square off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 31, having both remained out of the ring since their respective super-middleweight encounters in September 2025.

Back then, Canelo was defending his undisputed crown against Terence Crawford, who produced a masterful performance to win their contest by unanimous decision.

The American would then announce his retirement and, in turn, relinquish his titles, affording Mbilli an upgrade from ‘interim’ to full WBC champion following his 10-round draw with Lester Martinez.

But while Alvarez certainly has his hands full against the Frenchman, he is also being targeted by Jermall Charlo, who hopes to face the former four-division world champion before they both retire.

Speaking with Fight Hub TV, ‘Iron Man’ highlighted Canelo as an obvious opponent, perhaps because he would like to avenge twin brother Jermell’s unanimous decision defeat in 2023.

“I do want to fight Canelo before it’s all said and done, but I’m not going to be a Canelo chaser. Who knows, man.”

While hoping the Canelo clash eventually materialises, Charlo must first return to action in a super-middleweight contest with Koen Mazoudier on October 17.

If he proves successful, then the 36-year-old may look to become a three-division world champion, having previously held major titles at 154 and 160lbs.
