Concerns are growing that the proposed heavyweight battle between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua later this year may not take place in the United Kingdom, and now ‘AJ’ has responded to those rumours.
Joshua and Fury have been linked to one another for over a decade, but it seems as though they will finally collide in 2026, providing both men come through relatively low-risk affairs this weekend against Kristian Prenga and Mariusz Wach, respectively.
Yet, there have been whispers that the clash could happen stateside in November, rather than at Wembley Stadium as expected, or that, if it does happen in the United Kingdom, it would have to go ahead in the early hours of the morning in order to appease the American audience.
Speaking with Boxing Now, Joshua agreed that the grudge match should happen in Britain and revealed that he is pushing for the fight to be on home soil, before refocussing on the task at hand on Saturday night.
“I agree, I’m with you [it should be at Wembley], but I am not that powerful. I’m pushing [for it], it is in our contract, Eddie put it in our contract that it has to be in the UK, but we’re pushing.
“I think it is though, right? Or is it just that people are talking… you know what? Let me focus on Prenga!”
Joshua vs. Prenga takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, with Hamzah Sheeraz and Josh Kelly both seeking to defend their world titles on the undercard.
