Liverpool moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after securing a 2-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield, with Alexander Isak finding the net and Pascal Groß scoring an unfortunate own goal in a decisive first half spell.
Andoni Iraola’s side made the most of their opportunities against a Brighton team that arrived in strong form. The result delivered Liverpool their first home Premier League win of the season and kept them firmly in contention near the top of the table.
Brighton remain third despite the defeat, holding a one point advantage over Liverpool after suffering only their second loss in 13 matches across all competitions this season.
Liverpool Capitalise on Brighton’s Missed Opportunity
Brighton started brightly and looked capable of troubling Liverpool during the opening exchanges. Yasin Ayari had an excellent opportunity to put the visitors ahead after a well worked attacking move, but his effort flew over the crossbar.
That miss proved costly as Liverpool gradually took control of the contest. The home side opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Florian Wirtz attempted to find the target, only for his effort to be diverted into the net by Groß.
The own goal ended Brighton’s run of Premier League defensive resilience, with the Seagulls having last conceded in their 1-1 draw against Leeds on 5 September.
Liverpool seized the momentum and quickly established a two goal cushion, leaving Brighton with an uphill task at Anfield.

Alexander Isak Continues Scoring Run
Liverpool doubled their lead in the 21st minute through Isak, who finished an excellent attacking move to put the hosts in a commanding position.
Bradley Barcola supplied the decisive contribution, beating his opponent down the right wing before delivering a cross into the penalty area. Isak connected with a composed volley, directing the ball beyond the Brighton goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
The strike marked Isak’s third consecutive Premier League appearance…
