Tess Daly and Vernon Kay are reportedly ‘entering a new chapter in their marriage’ after she quit her Strictly Come Dancing hosting job after 21 years.Â
The presenter, 57, and the Radio 2 DJ, 51, who tied the knot in 2003 and share two daughters Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16, are said to be preparing to go on a ‘grown-up gap year’ together before Tess turns 60.Â
Tess ‘wants to be a bit selfish’ as she feels like she has ‘missed out’ on travelling due to working since her teens. Â
A source told Closer magazine: ‘She is desperate to have a grown-up gap year and see the world with Vernon as she wants to do it while they still can.Â
‘Vernon could take some time-off and they could just do everything they’ve ever wanted to do and enjoy what they’ve worked for.’Â
Though the couple would like to go for a whole year, Vernon is said to want to ‘jet off for a few weeks at a time’ so he can return home to still host his mid-morning radio show.Â
Tess Daly and husband Vernon Kay are reportedly ‘entering a new chapter in their marriage’ after she quit her Strictly Come Dancing hosting job after 21 years
The presenter, 57, and the Radio 2 DJ, 51, who tied the knot in 2003, are said to be preparing to go on a ‘grown-up gap year’ together before Tess turns 60
‘It would be the first time in a long while that they will get to spend quality time together just the two of them with no responsibilities. It would be a new chapter in their marriage.Â
‘Tess always put Vernon and the girls first and now she wants to be a bit selfish and make the most of their situation and her new-found freedom. She has been working since her teens and never really got to do all the travelling. She feels she’s missed out even though she knows how lucky she is.’
It comes as Vernon shared a sweet photo with the couple’s oldest daughter Phoebe as they enjoyed drinks watching the sunset at The Chancery Rosewood rooftop bar.Â
Phoebe, who is currently living in New York, looked happier than ever to be reunited with her famous dad.Â
The 21-year-old looked the double of her mum Tess as she donned a glamorous gold off the shoulder top with black trousers and stilettos.Â
She elevated her frame in a pair of silver metallic heels and toted her belongings in black handbag.Â
Meanwhile Radio 2 presenter Vernon cut a cool figure in white jeans and a pink knitted cardigan.Â
He wrote: ‘Ahhhhh Summer nights in London on the @thechanceryrosewood rooftop with @phoebeekay The best view on a clear blue evening sky….’
Tess also took to Instagram as she stunned in an orange satin blouse and white trousers as she posed on the rooftop. Â

It comes after Vernon insisted his and wife Tess’ daughters will not be pampered nepo babies while opening up about their ‘changing’ family dynamic.
In a new interview Vernon said he and Tess have always instilled a strong work ethic in their daughters, encouraging them to ‘go out and graft’.
‘Now that Phoebe is 21 and Amber is nearly 17, our relationship with them is changing. We talk about encouraging them to leave the nest and be independent but we don’t really want them to’.
He went on to reveal that the couple fear for their children, remembering the terror of drink spiking when Phoebe was old enough to go clubbing.Â
‘You have to learn to enter their world and that world has pitfalls that just didn’t exist for us’.
Vernon then shared Tess’ ‘core lesson which he said had always remained the same for their children: ‘You’ve got to go out and graft’.Â
He told The Times: ‘That’s something we’ve tried to instil in our girls. They’re still working out what they want to do but we’ve told them: “Your mum and I aren’t going to give you everything”‘.
Phoebe, who is a film production student, has also taken on the role as an influencer as she documents her enviable lifestyle to a steadily rising follower base.
She made her red carpet debut much later than other nepo babies – waiting until 2023 when she attended the movie premiere of John Wick Chapter 4 in London’s Leicester Square.
Phoebe, then 18, looked stylish in a white draped shirt with a pair of shiny black pleather trousers as she walked arm-in-arm with her father, Vernon.

Tess and Vernon’s oldest daughter Phoebe revealed she was back in London visiting from New York as she shared a snap in Notting Hill on her Instagram Stories
Their outing came after Vernon said he doesn’t want his children to live off his and wife Tess’s fame, insisting they form ‘their own careers’.
At the time he told the Daily Mail he was looking at drama schools to send Phoebe to where she can combine her passions for acting and business.
While most parents might celebrate the end of their child’s A-levels with a pat on the back and takeout, Vernon treated his daughter to a holiday in the world’s party capital in June 2023.
No expense was spared for their father-daughter trip that included a stay at the luxurious Casa Maca hotel where rooms cost upward of £1,000 per night. The itinerary for Vernon and Phoebe’s Spanish getaway included an evening at the glamorous Ushuaïa beach club, where the pair partied with superstar DJ Calvin Harris.
Documenting their vacation on Instagram, Vernon said it was ‘a proud moment’ to be able to take Phoebe to Ibiza to ‘celebrate [the] end of A levels’ alongside photos from their time at the exclusive night club. In one picture, Vernon and Phoebe can be seen posing in front of a massive stage while surrounded by concertgoers.
The radio star appeared to be holding a glass of bubbly in one hand and a bottle of water in the other, while Phoebe raised her glass.
