Terence Crawford has assessed the 69-fight slate of his former rival Canelo Alvarez, who hopes ‘Bud’ can be lured out of retirement for a rematch.
The pair squared off in September 2025, with Crawford moving up two weight classes and dethroning his Mexican foe to become a three-division undisputed king.
Canelo then underwent elbow surgery following that unanimous decision defeat, before arranging a super-middleweight clash with then-WBC champion Christian Mbilli.
Due to Crawford’s retirement last December, Mbilli had been elevated from ‘interim’ to full champion after boxing to a 10-round draw with Lester Martinez a few months earlier.
As a result, Canelo had the opportunity to reclaim his world title and, following a postponement of around six weeks, the pair finally squared off last Saturday.
Even at the age of 36, Alvarez proved far too skilled as he outclassed the Frenchman through large spells of their encounter, which culminated in a convincing unanimous decision victory.
In response, Crawford has taken to social media and praised the legacy of Canelo, albeit while stopping short of entertaining a second encounter with the four-division world champion.
“[Canelo] is cold. I’ve always been a fan of cinnamon! Looking at his record and you can say what you want, he was taking a lot of fighters’ 0s from them. Salute champ, it was [an honour] to share the ring with you champ.”

Among those unbeaten fighters were Gennady Golovkin, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant, who all lost to a prime version of Canelo.
As for his immediate future, it seems unlikely that the 36-year-old, despite having repeatedly called for it, will secure a rematch with Crawford.
