Chelsea do not need more noise around squad planning, they need clarity. That is why this latest report, credited to Football 365, lands with some weight. Xabi Alonso is said to want a £101m January double raid on Barcelona for Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong, and on the surface it makes a certain amount of sense.
The positions are obvious enough. Reece James is injured again, Chelsea are light in a few key areas, and the midfield picture still looks untidy after Enzo Fernandez’s summer departure to Manchester City. Six league matches into the season, with three wins, one draw and two defeats, Chelsea are not in crisis. They are, however, in that familiar modern Chelsea space where the squad looks expensive, large and still somehow incomplete.
