Liverpool made contact to sign Aleksandar Stankovic

Liverpool reportedly made contact to sign Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic this summer, as per TEAMtalk.

After coming through the Nerazzurri’s youth system, the 21-year-old struggled to break into the starting line-up. So, he joined FC Luzern on loan a couple of years ago to play regularly and develop his career before joining Club Brugge permanently last summer.

The youngster enjoyed a promising campaign in the Belgian Pro League last season, making 12 goal contributions in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Moreover, he helped his side win the league. Having shown glimpses of his high potential for Club Brugge, Stankovic has secured his place in the Serbian national team.

After being impressed by his recent development, Inter have decided to bring him back this summer. Now, TEAMtalk claim that Stankovic, the son of Inter legend Dejan, has attracted a lot of attention in recent times, as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing him this summer before shifting focus to other targets.

On the other hand, Liverpool enquired about the details of signing Stankovic during negotiations with Inter Milan regarding Curtis Jones. However, despite selling the Englishman to the Italian giants, Liverpool decided not to buy Stankovic.

The Reds are happy with their current midfield options and focused on upgrading the flanks this summer following Mohamed Salah’s departure as a free agent.

However, the report state that Liverpool are considering reinforcing the engine room next year and remain keen on purchasing the Serbian international.

He is valued at around £27m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2031. So, the Italian champions aren’t in any rush to sell him.

Stankovic is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed midfielder and can provide cover in the defensive midfield and box-to-box roles. He can play threading passes between the lines, is efficient at taking set-pieces, and is solid in defensive contributions.
