Great front threes are about more than placing three outstanding attackers in the same team.

Chelsea now have a new combination attracting attention: JPMorgan, featuring João Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. The nickname combines the initials of João Pedro and Palmer with Morgan’s surname, creating one of football’s most inventive labels.
The early numbers are exciting. However, if JPMorgan are going to join the greatest modern front threes, they will need to maintain their output across several seasons and deliver major trophies.
1. MSN: Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar
Barcelona’s MSN remains the standard against which every modern front three is measured.
The trio united Messi’s extraordinary creativity, Suárez’s aggressive centre-forward play and Neymar’s dribbling from the left. All three could score, create and decide matches individually, but their willingness to combine made the partnership exceptional.
MSN scored 122 goals in all competitions during the 2014/15 season as Barcelona won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. They improved their collective total to 131 goals in 2015/16.
Their tactical balance was almost perfect. Neymar carried the ball from the left, Suárez occupied central defenders and Messi drifted inside from the right to control the game. Defenders could not concentrate on one player without creating space for another.
Barcelona’s 2015 Champions League success elevated the trio beyond spectacular statistics. They scored in every round of the knockout stage, with all three finding the net during the final against Juventus.
