Manchester United’s long-term planning appears to be stretching firmly into the centre of defence, with Caught Offside reporting growing interest in Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch. The 20-year-old has rapidly built a reputation as one of Germany’s standout young centre-backs, and that rise has naturally drawn the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
United’s interest makes clear sense. Jeltsch is regarded as technically sharp, calm in possession and comfortable operating under pressure, all qualities that modern top-level sides now demand from their defenders. Positive scouting feedback has reportedly already reached Old Trafford, and the next stage could be formal contact with Stuttgart as United assess whether a move is realistic.
Finn Jeltsch attracting elite attention
This is not a straightforward race. Bayern Munich are believed to be pushing strongly, while Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus are all tracking the player’s progress. That creates a familiar transfer challenge for United, where admiration alone means little unless the pathway, the timing and the project all align.
Stuttgart also hold a very strong hand. Jeltsch is under contract until June 2030 after arriving from Nürnberg in February 2025, which leaves the Bundesliga side under no pressure to negotiate. Their view of his quality has already been made obvious internally, and his market standing only appears to be rising.

There is also no sign of a player agitating for an exit. As reported by AFP, Jeltsch said he has “an ideal environment” at Stuttgart and is “excited by the opportunity to play Champions League football.” That stance matters. United would need to convince him that their sporting vision offers a stronger long-term step than staying exactly where he is.
