This Saturday, OM won (2-0) in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France against Hyères, resident of National 2. The starting lineup was reworked by Igor Tudor who notably established Pape Gueye as left central defender, in a defense at 3. A test which seems to have given satisfaction to the Croatian.

From the 15th minute, OM found himself at 10 after the expulsion of Eric Bailly, author of a gross fault on Almike Moussa N’Diayeimmediately released, then admitted to intensive care “as a precaution” as specified by the Var president Mourad Boudjellal. The Marseille defense therefore had to adapt, in particular Pope Gueyeusual defensive midfielder who this Saturday evolved to the position of left stopper.

“It’s a solution that we tried”

Whether Igor Tudor took advantage of this meeting to slightly rotate the workforce, he relied on many executives. Pope Gueyeusually positioned in midfield, played the match as left stopper, and Igor Tudor spoke about this tactical repositioning in a post-match press conference: “This is a solution that we have tried. This is not the first time he has played in this position. It was a strange game to understand his position because we had to play with one player less“, confided the coach of OM in comments reported by The Phocaean.

“We will see in the following matches if we keep this option”

WhileEric Bailly would risk between 4 and 6 games of firm suspension after his gross misconduct, Pope Gueye could be a new defensive solution for Igor Tudor. The Croatian tactician does not rule out the possibility of reappointing the 23-year-old Senegalese to this position in the future: “We will see in the following matches if we keep this option“. The next meeting of OM disputes this Wednesday with a trip to the lawn on Stade de l’Aude from ESTAC, currently 13th in League 1.
