According to multiple sources, Liverpool have been offered a chance to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, currently playing for Sunderland on loan from RB Leipzig.
The Merseysiders’ back line has been severely hit by injuries, and all three players that can play on the right defensive flank are currently out of action. The season is over for Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong is expected to miss several weeks, and Joe Gomez is expected to return to training in the coming days. Head coach Arne Slot, who knows Geertruida well from their time together at Feyenoord, used midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in that role in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday, while Wataru Endo stepped in when Frimpong got injured against Qarabag in the Champions League earlier this week.
Geertruida, who has 19 caps as a Netherlands international, is a natural right-back and can also do the job at centre-back, if need be. This season, the 25-year-old has made 17 Premier League appearances for the Back Cats. His contract with Leipzig, his parent club, runs until 2029, and it remains to be seen what kind of a deal Liverpool will offer.
