Kostas Mitroglou. This is a name that must give Olympique Marseille supporters cold sweats. But don’t get me wrong Marseille friends, these few words do not announce the return of the Greek striker to the Marseille city. Quite the contrary. The 34-year-old has decided to end his professional career according to Portuguese dailies Record and A Bola. No official announcement has been made.
“Professional” because the former Olympian is not completely finished with football. The Kavala native will continue to play for German amateur club Rheurdt-Schaephuysen. Without a club since last summer after his departure from Aris Salonika, Mitroglou has never regained his Benfica level since his arrival at the Orange Vélodrome in 2017. Under the colors of OM, the center forward of a meter 88 was rather known for his huge failures than for his address in front of the cages. The Greek will still have scored 16 goals in 50 games with the Olympians. Not so bad for a “clumsy” striker.
