Jeremy Joseph, Kimbo Ung Share Chip Lead after WPT Legends of Poker Day 2

Winners 15

Day 2 of this year’s WPT Legends of Poker $5,000 Main Event is now in the books. And it was quite an eventful day at the host venue The Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California.

Action kicked off with 200 survivors from the two starting flights. They were joined by 27 players who took advantage of the late registration option and entered into the event before the start of Day 2. After ten levels of play, the tournament’s Day 2 field was whittled down to just 37 players.

Jeremy Joseph and Kimbo Ung are sharing the overnight chip lead, good for a stack of 1.11 million chips.

Joseph’s bankroll currently stands at around $1.7 million. About $300,000 of the player’s overall tournament earnings came from his participation in WPT tournaments. Among other in-the-money finishes, Joseph has a third-place finish in the latest Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open for $240,945 recorded under his name. As for Ung, the player’s lifetime tournament earnings currently amount to around $145,000.

Both players are poised to add to their current bankrolls as the money bubble of the WPT Legends of Poker burst last night. It is yet to be seen how much each of the two current chip leaders would bag.

The Prize Pool

This year’s WPT Legends of Poker drew a total of 520 entries who crashed the $2 million guarantee to generate a prize pool of $2.392 million. The money was split into payouts for the top 65 finishers. And as mentioned above, the money bubble burst last night.

The bubble lasted several hands as no player would want to leave so close to the money. Bud Lavassani eventually became the bubble boy, leaving it to the remaining 65 players to split the money. Each of the final 65 survivors was guaranteed a minimum payout of $8,190 at that point.

Day 3 of the tournament is set to kick off today at noon local time at the host venue. There are 37 players to have bagged chips last night and are now set to return to The Bike and fight for a seat at the official six-handed final table.

Joseph and Ung each put 1.11 million into their bags last night. The only other players to bag seven-figure stacks last night were Brian Altman (1.05 million) and Gueorgui Gantchev (1.025 million). Notables still in contention include Kitty Kuo, Aaron Mermelstein, Cord Garcia, Phil Laak, and Mohsin Charania.

The remaining hopefuls are set to play down to the final six. The official six-handed final table will then be played on Wednesday.

Each of the 37 players headed into Day 3 of the WPT Legends of Poker is guaranteed a $12,080 payday. And each of the contenders that would make it into the final table stage would be guaranteed $96,955.

The winner of the prestigious tournament will be awarded a top prize of $474,390, including a seat into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions. The victor will also have their name engraved on the one and only WPT Champions Cup.
