Rashford – with 27 United goals now to his name this term – earned a 47 per cent majority share of the voting, beating Casemiro and Facundo Pellistri to the award, who had a 15 per cent and 10 per cent share, respectively.

After a tricky first half that ended level, in which both sides had opportunities to open the scoring, Rashford and his team-mates came out of the blocks quickly after the half-time restart.

Our no.10 looked especially lively, and was twice set up by Bruno Fernandes early in the second half – first drawing a save from goalkeeper Rui Silva and then shooting over from a promising position – before he netted the decisive goal.
