La Masia continue to produce talented players and Angel Alarcon has recently caught the attention of the staff and Barcelona manager Xavi. For several seasons, the striker has been considered one of the most promising players in the academy.
If the current campaign is anything to go by, Angel deserves all the appreciation and recognition. The 18-year-old has returned from a 14-month knee injury but has been impressive from the start. There is no indication that the unlucky injury that eliminated him from participating in the preseason with the first-team two years ago did not affect his acceleration or dynamics. In the YCL(Youth Champions League) alone, he scored three goals and made the same number of assists. In total, this season, he has twelve goals, five assists and a penalty won, thus noting a goal share on average every 84 minutes, which translates into a direct share of 36% of goals scored by his team.
The forward is part of a great 2004 generation that also includes Pablo Paez Gavi, Diego Almeida, Ilias Akhomach, Aleix Garrido, Arnau Casas and Toni Caravaca. FootTheBall highlights all of Angel Alarcon’s strengths and what can you expect from him.
Who is Angel Alarcon?
Born on 15 May 2004, Angel Alarcon started playing for Vista Alegre de Castelldefels. There he already showcased glimpses of his quality and often competed with players older than him. Barcelona who had been tracking Alarcon for some time, did not hesitate to sign him in 2018. So that summer, aged 14, the youngster switched clubs from Espanyol to Barcelona as he joined La Masia. He was added to arguably the most special generation from the azulgranas, the 2004 class.
By March Angel Alarcon was making his Barcelona B debut, going on to make four appearances in the 2020-21 season. At that point, he was shaping up to be one of the more promising forwards in the academy. That sentiment remained, at least until June of 2021, when Alarcon suffered an ACL injury and proceeded to miss the next 14 months.
