Manchester United’s midfield rebuild appears to be gathering pace, with Sky Sports reporting that the club are in advanced talks with Atalanta over Brazilian midfielder Ederson.
Sky Sports News’ Dan Khan, Vik Varange and Dharmesh Sheth report: “Manchester United are in advanced talks with Atalanta over Brazilian midfielder Ederson.”
That line alone will excite supporters. United have needed more authority, athleticism and control in midfield, and Ederson has long looked like the type of player capable of adding steel without slowing the team down.
Ederson Valuation Gap Remains
Sky Sports state there is “still a gap in the player’s valuation between the two clubs”, with Atalanta wanting around £45m. However, there is confidence that an agreement can be reached at a lower price soon.
That matters. Ederson is out of contract next summer, which naturally weakens Atalanta’s negotiating position. United, under Michael Carrick, appear to be moving with purpose rather than panic.

Personal Terms Boost United Hopes
Perhaps the most encouraging part of the report is that “personal terms are not thought to be an issue.” That suggests the player is open to the move, and United are unlikely to face a major obstacle once the clubs agree a fee.
Sky also note that United have held a “long-term interest in Ederson during his time at Atalanta.” That points to planning, not opportunism.
Atalanta Admission Adds Weight
Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino added intrigue by confirming that Ederson was an unused substitute against Fiorentina because a “‘major club’ is following him.”
That is rarely accidental language. Clubs protect assets when talks become serious, and this feels like a transfer moving into its decisive stage.
United are also continuing background work on Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, but Ederson looks the most advanced option right now.
