Maddison Calls Tottenham Position Embarrassing
James Maddison faced the hard truth of Tottenham’s season after a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, calling Spurs’ predicament “embarrassing” as their Premier League survival fight moved to the final day.
Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos put Chelsea in control before Richarlison’s late response gave Tottenham only consolation. Spurs remain 17th, two points above the relegation zone, with Everton to visit north London on Sunday.

For Tottenham, this was a night of regret. A win would have secured top flight status, while a draw would have eased the danger. Instead, defeat left tension hanging over club, supporters and squad under severe pressure.
Maddison, denied a late equaliser by a superb Jorrel Hato block, spoke with the honesty supporters needed.
“We have to give everything for the club, for the badge, for the fans.
“It’s a bit embarrassing that we’re in this position. We’re going to need our fans, who were unbelievable tonight. I think we have the best away following in the league.”
He continued: “We knew any sort of result would be very beneficial for us in the battle. It wasn’t to be.
“We pushed hard in the last 20 minutes. It was probably a pretty even game, I don’t remember them having many chances.”
Maddison Return Gives Tottenham Hope
Maddison’s return from ACL surgery has offered Tottenham a rare positive in a grim campaign. He did not play until April, so rhythm and sharpness remain understandable issues. Even so, his quality, courage and candour could prove vital when Everton arrive.
“I’ve been out for a long time, so I’m not going to be at my fluid best. I’ve had a massive injury and you have to respect the injury a bit. I’m going to do what I can on Sunday.”
