Barcelona have reportedly already had informal contacts over the potential signing of Joao Pedro, though he’s only focused on Chelsea and this summer’s World Cup.

The Brazil international has shone during his first season at Stamford Bridge, contributing 19 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Given Chelsea’s current struggles, it’s perhaps not surprising to see reports of Barcelona trying to poach Pedro from them.

However, ESPN Brasil report that Chelsea have already communicated to Barca that Pedro is not available, while the player himself is remaining focused on the Blues and on doing his best with the Brazilian national team.

Chelsea could struggle to keep hold of Joao Pedro for the long term

Pedro showed his quality at Brighton and he’s immediately made the step up to representing a big club like Chelsea, so if the west London giants continue to miss out on participation in the Champions League, he’s surely someone who could look to make the step up again.

The 24-year-old looks like he could be a fine fit for Barcelona at some point in the near future, with the Catalan giants likely to need a big signing up front soon as the ageing Robert Lewandowski is nearing the end of his contract.

Chelsea’s project will surely face real scrutiny this summer after a disappointing campaign, and this surely won’t be the last we hear about some of the club’s best players possibly leaving.

Who else could leave Chelsea this summer?

For now it looks like CFC don’t have too much to worry about with Pedro, but there have been transfer rumours about Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, and Marc Cucurella in recent weeks.

Our understanding is that Chelsea could accept the right offers for Fernandez as he’s unsettled after this challenging season with the west London club.
