Manchester United are considering an ambitious January move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Michael Carrick searches for solutions to his side’s growing attacking concerns.
According to Laurie Whitwell and Beren Cross of The Athletic, United have begun assessing potential centre-forward targets ahead of the winter transfer window, with Calvert-Lewin emerging as a player of interest.
The 29-year-old England international has rediscovered his goalscoring touch at Elland Road, making him an intriguing option for a Manchester United side facing an increasingly complicated period without Benjamin Sesko.
However, persuading Leeds to part with their leading striker could prove exceptionally difficult.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Emerges as Manchester United Transfer Target
Calvert-Lewin’s resurgence represents one of the more compelling stories in English football. Having endured several injury-disrupted seasons at Everton, the striker has rebuilt his reputation since joining Leeds on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
His return of 14 goals in 35 league appearances last season provided the foundation for Leeds’ attacking ambitions. Four goals in eight Premier League matches this campaign suggest that his revival has genuine substance.
Across all competitions, Calvert-Lewin has scored 20 times in 49 appearances for Leeds, establishing himself as an indispensable figure in their forward line.
Manchester United’s recruitment department clearly recognise those qualities. His physical presence, aerial ability and experience of Premier League football offer characteristics that could immediately strengthen Carrick’s attacking options.
There is also a certain irony in United’s interest. Calvert-Lewin scored against them during October’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road, providing a timely demonstration of his capabilities.
