Brighton have once again been linked with one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders, and this latest development feels entirely in keeping with the club’s recruitment strategy under Fabian Hurzeler. According to TeamTalk, the Seagulls have identified Red Bull Salzburg’s Bartosz Mazurek as a major target, though any move is far from straightforward.
The 19-year-old Polish attacking midfielder has been on Brighton’s radar for some time. The report states the club have tracked him for “almost two seasons” and believe he “ticks many of the boxes in their recruitment model”. That line alone tells you plenty about why Brighton are interested. They tend to move early on emerging talent, and Mazurek appears to fit the profile perfectly.
His rise has been swift. Since joining Salzburg from Jagiellonia Białystok for €6million, or £5m, he has adapted quickly, producing goals and assists while building on the promise he showed in Poland. One standout moment noted in the report was a “hat-trick against Fiorentina in the Conference League”, a performance that clearly helped elevate his standing across the continent.
Brighton transfer interest meets Benfica and Porto challenge
This, however, is not a clear run. TeamTalk reports that Brighton are “not alone in their pursuit of the player”, with Benfica and Porto both firmly in the picture. Porto’s admiration has been known for a while, and Benfica are also said to be serious contenders after earlier talks.
That level of competition matters. When two major Portuguese clubs are actively pushing, Brighton need to sell more than just a transfer. They need to present the best development pathway, the best sporting project and the clearest route to top-level minutes.
