Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig star David Raum in January, as per TEAMtalk.
The Red Devils currently have Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as options to deploy in the left-back position. Moreover, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot can provide cover in this area, although they are right-backs by trait.
However, Shaw has had numerous fitness problems since joining from Southampton, while Dorgu has mainly featured as a forward under Michael Carrick.
But the Dane has also struggled with injury issues in recent months. Now, TEAMtalk claim that United initially wanted to sign a new left-back this summer and identified Raum as a potential option.
However, they didn’t make a move. But they are considering reinforcing the left side of defence in January and have earmarked the Leipzig star as a serious option.
With the 28-year-old’s existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, the Bundesliga don’t want to let him leave for free and are willing to tie him down to a fresh term.
However, the report state that Raum is keen to join Man Utd, although Juventus are also interested in him. Intermediaries have suggested that £30m could be enough to secure his services.
Raum to Man Utd
Raum is a left-back by trait but is also comfortable in the LWB role. He is quick, can deliver excellent crosses from the flank, is efficient at taking set-pieces and is solid in defensive contributions.
Since moving to Red Bull Arena from Hoffenheim back in 2022, Raum has established himself as an undisputed starter. Last season, he showcased his productivity, scoring three goals and registering nine assists across all competitions.
Moreover, he helped his side keep eight clean sheets. Having proven his worth in club football, Raum has secured his place in the German national team.
The defender is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next…..
