Manchester United’s search for a centre-forward looks to be narrowing, with Serhou Guirassy increasingly prominent after fresh indications that Brian Brobbey will not be leaving Sunderland. According to TeamTalk, United remain active in assessing options and could yet move for a striker when the market allows.
There is little mystery around the requirement. United need greater certainty through the middle, both in availability and output. Benjamin Sesko has the profile of a leading No 9, though fitness concerns have clouded his immediate standing. Matheus Cunha offers mobility and quality, but his game is more naturally suited to wider or withdrawn areas. Joshua Zirkzee remains an orthodox striker, though the sense persists that United may still want a more established scorer to shoulder the burden at Old Trafford.
Brian Brobbey stance closes one door
Brobbey had emerged as a name of interest after an encouraging start with Sunderland, where he has struck three times in five Premier League appearances. However, the current expectation is that Sunderland have no intention of sanctioning a sale. For United, that effectively removes one route and sharpens focus elsewhere.

When clubs reach this stage of the process, the key question is often not simply who they admire, but who is attainable. Brobbey may fit parts of the brief, yet the market only moves when the selling club are willing to engage. Right now, there is no sign of that.
Serhou Guirassy profile makes sense for United
That helps explain why Guirassy remains firmly in the conversation. The Borussia Dortmund striker has built an impressive record across the past few seasons and, at 30, brings a level of certainty that is difficult to find. His numbers stand up to scrutiny, 22 goals in 48 games in 2025/26, 34 in 45 in 2024/25 and 30 in 30 for Stuttgart in 2023/24.
