Manchester United will need to look at revamping their backline as soon as 2027 gets underway and the full back positions, where there have been subpar players for the last couple of years, are expected to be the board’s focus.
Ekrem Konur has reported that the Red Devils are keen on the addition of a new left back sooner rather than later to take over from Luke Shaw with Patrick Dorgu demonstrating greater utility higher up the pitch.
On that note, the journalist has added that United have identified Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco as a potential addition in 2027, with the Italian international about to enter the final year of his contract with the Nerazzurri.
While he is valued on Transfermarkt at £43 million, Dimarco’s value might drop next year owing to his contractual situation. With Inter likely to offer him only a short-term extension given that he is close to 30, the 28-year-old is open to leaving San Siro.
A top quality signing for United
Federico Dimarco would be an excellent purchase for Manchester United, especially if they can acquire him on a discount next summer. He has been one of Serie A’s most experienced and well-rounded defenders in recent years.
Though he lacks strong aerial attributes due to a relatively short height, Dimarco is able to make up for it with his strong work-rate. He uses his physique intelligently and can track players down effectively to put in quality tackles and regain possession.
In addition to being brilliant defensively, Dimarco’s tactical intelligence means United would leverage from his strong offensive positioning, overlapping runs, inverted midfielder attributes and accurate crossing as well.
Man United, however, will need to qualify for next season’s Champions League to be able to lure a high-quality player away from Inter Milan and how the rest of their season pans out would go a long way in determining whether or not they can materialise interest in Dimarco and other targets.
