Everton reportedly came close to signing Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey, as per German football specialist Christian Falk.
The 25-year-old came into the spotlight having displayed impressive performances for Galatasaray. After being impressed by his performances, the Bavarian club decided to purchase him a couple of years ago.
Although he has enjoyed great success at the Allianz Arena, winning a Bundesliga title and a German Super Cup, he has failed to flourish in his career.
Therefore, Boey returned to Cimbom on loan in January to play regularly and develop his career. The Frenchman won the Turkish Super Lig title last campaign.
Now, on the FC Bayern Insider website, Falk claims that Bayern Munich were hoping to offload Boey this summer and Hamburg and Fulham expressed their interest in him.
But Everton showed the most concrete interest and came close to signing him after holding talks with the German giants. In the end, the deal fell through, and the Merseyside club opted to bolster the right-back position by purchasing Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Olympique Lyonnais on deadline day.
The journalist states that Bayern Munich are now exploring the possibility of selling Boey to Saudi Arabia or Turkiye as their market is still open for a few more days.
Boey to Everton
Boey is quick, strong, can play out from the back, efficient going forward, and is solid in defensive contributions. Although he struggled at Bayern Munich, he is a talented player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League.
Moreover, he is currently at the prime stage of his career; therefore, the Frenchman would have been a shrewd acquisition for Everton had they managed to secure his services.
Nevertheless, Maitland-Niles is also currently at the prime stage of his career and knows the Premier League, having previously played for Arsenal. Therefore, he might turn out to be a solid addition for Everton.
