Liverpool reportedly hold a strong interest in signing AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, as per Football Insider.
Although the Reds won the Premier League title under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 campaign, they struggled last term. So, Liverpool decided to part ways with the Dutch boss this summer, and Andoni Iraola has been appointed as the new manager.
The Spanish boss showcased his tactical nous for AFC Bournemouth over the last few years, helping the Cherries qualify for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.
The Merseyside club purchased Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Muñoz and Bradley Barcola in the recently concluded summer transfer window. Moreover, they signed Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona.
However, despite selling Curtis Jones to Inter Milan, Liverpool opted not to sign a new midfielder in this window. Now, Football Insider state that Iraola’s side might look to upgrade the engine room next year and hold a strong interest in Camara.
Following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City, Chelsea attempted to sign the 22-year-old on deadline day. They even agreed on a deal in principle with Monaco to buy him for around £47m.
However, after agreeing to let Folarin Balogun join Everton, a deal eventually fell through, Monaco decided to block Camara’s move to Chelsea, which made the Blues’ hierarchy furious. So, they might decide not to reignite their interest in the African.
Camara to Liverpool
The report state that Liverpool made preliminary talks to sign Camara this summer but never made a formal approach. However, they could make a move to seal the deal in January.
The Monaco star is a right-footed defensive midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Although Monaco displayed inconsistent performances last term, he showed glimpses of his qualities, making seven goal contributions across all competitions.
He is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, Camara might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
