Manchester United have reportedly been in contact over a deal to sign Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas, as per TEAMtalk.
The 19-year-old started his youth career at Marina Sport before spending time with Monte and Bansander. He joined Los Verdiblancos’ academy at the age of 12.
After rising through their youth system, he made his first-team debut a couple of years ago before establishing himself as a regular starter last campaign.
In 33 La Liga 2 appearances, the Spaniard registered seven assists and kept as many clean sheets last term. Moreover, he helped his side gain promotion.
Salinas helped Spain win the U19 European Championship during the summer. He even showed glimpses of his qualities in the opening La Liga encounter against Villarreal last weekend.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Man Utd have been keeping a close eye on Salinas’ development since last term and even watched him for Spain U19.
Having been impressed by his displays, United have been in contact with Racing Santander and the player’s representatives over a potential move this summer.
Salinas to Man Utd
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, Los Verdiblancos aren’t in any rush to sell him, but he has a £14m [€16m] release clause, as per the report.
However, TEAMtalk state that Man Utd will have to overcome stiff competition to finalise the operation, as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have also expressed their interest in him. But the Blaugrana are reluctant to sign him by triggering his release clause.
Los Rojiblancos want Salinas after letting Matteo Ruggeri join Aston Villa, but they are fearful that United could make a formal approach soon.
Salinas is a left-footed, technically gifted player. He is quick, technically sound, can create opportunities for the attackers, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
The Spaniard is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
