With the Premier League kick off just two weeks away, things are moving quickly in the world of transfers.
Teams are desperately trying to get deals over the line quickly so they can bring their squad together and prepare for the season opener. One deal that has come from nowhere over the last few days is Liverpool’s loan for Ronald Araujo.
It was well known that the Reds were looking for a central defender who can also fill in on the right, but nobody was talking about the Barcelona defender as a possibility until Fabrizio Romano dropped the exclusive that talks were taking place.
Loan deal gives Liverpool the chance to make defender switch permanent
Things have gone quickly since then, and the Italian transfer guru is now saying that the two clubs have “exchanged all documents” for the deal, which will be completed soon.
It’s a loan for the season, with a €55m option to buy for the Reds. It feels like a solid deal all around – if Araujo can stay injury free he can be a really useful player for Andoni Iraola.
The defender has plenty of talent but perhaps needs a fresh start to get his career on track again. Meanwhile Barcelona can rely on their young defensive talents like Marc Cubarsi, and potentially get a big cash injection in a year’s time.
Everyone is curious about how Araujo will fare in the Premier League – he’s certainly got the physical tools to thrive in the English top flight if given the chance.
