Liverpool are stepping up their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye this summer, according to CaughtOffside.
Mbaye has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects since coming through the ranks at PSG’s academy. He holds the record for the youngest ever starter for the Parisian club after starting in the 4-1 win over Le Havre on August 16, 2024, at 16 years and 205 days.
After representing France at the youth level, he changed his international allegiance to Senegal last year and memorably scored in his second game for the Teranga Lions in the 8-0 friendly win over Kenya.
He has gone on to make 14 appearances for the West African country, including four in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, where his goal in the 3-1 defeat to France made him both the youngest Senegalese player and the youngest African footballer to score at the tournament at 18 years and 142 days old.
With two years remaining in his contract, Mbaye has been a subject of keen interest among several clubs, with reports in recent days via Football Talk revealing that Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea have expressed interest in the winger.
It appears Liverpool are now looking to steal a march on their rivals, as CaughtOffside claims that the Reds are stepping up their efforts to sign Mbaye from PSG this summer.
Mbaye to Liverpool
The report adds that the Merseyside giants have made contact with the 18-year-old’s agent, Jorge Mendes, over his potential transfer to Anfield, and the club are optimistic about sealing the deal for the exciting forward.
PSG are set to demand a fee between £34m and £42m for the Senegalese, who is attracted to Liverpool’s project and is ‘eager’ to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer, according to the report.
