Thomas Frank wish is ‘no secret’ as Brentford battle Man Utd, Tottenham to keep Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has become of interest to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur again, but Thomas Frank does not think he will be looking that far ahead.

Eriksen has been getting back in action for Brentford over the past few weeks. His return to football after the cardiac arrest he suffered during Euro 2020 has been a story that the whole world of football has followed.

Unable to play in Italy with a heart-starting device, Eriksen had to leave Inter Milan to continue his career. An opportunity arose for him to do so back in the Premier League with Brentford.

Since then, the 30-year-old has featured in four matches. He recorded an assist in the third and a goal in the fourth, which was against Chelsea at the weekend.

It came after an international break in which he scored in consecutive matches for Denmark, in friendlies against the Netherlands and Serbia.

The important thing for Eriksen is to simply be playing – while healthy – again. But on current form, he is sending a reminder of the levels he was capable of before the dramatic incident last June.

As such, the Daily Mail have linked him with a return to Tottenham Hotspur or a move to Manchester United, who were long-term admirers before. His contract only runs until the end of the season.

Brentford would like him to extend his commitment to them, even if it is clear that a peak Eriksen would be beyond their level.

And for manager Thomas Frank, it would be beneficial to have Eriksen available again for the 2022-23 campaign. However, he is yet to make a commitment over the playmaker’s future while bigger clubs hover.

Frank claims Eriksen enjoying Brentford experience

Frank said: “In any footballer’s decision to move clubs there are a lot of aspects. It will be the same for Christian.

“To be fair, I know Christian quite well and one thing he’s good at is just enjoying the moment. And I think he’s enjoying it even more.

“So we are not thinking too much of what is going to happen in two or three months’ time.

“I’m just very pleased he’s playing for us. It’s no secret that I want him to continue next season.

“I know Christian is enjoying his football and really enjoying being back. I know I will have to answer these questions until the end of the season, so let’s see what will happen.”
